Astrometric mass measurement of compact companions in binary systems with Gaia

چکیده
For binary systems with an unseen primary and a luminous secondary, the astrometric wobble of secondary could be used to study primary. With Gaia, it is possible measure mass black hole or neutron star companion (hereafter BH/NS-LC). Our aim provide method for predicting Gaia's ability in measuring BH/NS-LCs. We also tried estimate number solvable BH/NS-LCs using Gaia. realistic Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation mock Gaia observations obtain relation between uncertainty measurement observable variables orbit. Furthermore, we MOBSE code evolve Galactic BH/NS-LC sample combined Milky Way model. applied this derived good parameters. first time, show quantitive influence period P, inclination i, eccentricity e, ecliptic latitude $\beta$ measurement. results suggest that $48^{+7}_{-7}$ BH-LCs $102^{+11}_{10}$ NS-LCs are during 5 yr mission. give distribution distance apparent magnitude This would increased by additional spectroscopic data prolonged The future simulations observed prediction not only influenced process generating sample, but affected our relation. In particular, relations parameters such as $[P, \beta]$ very useful correct selection effect statistic

Binary sdB Stars with Massive Compact Companions
The masses of compact objects like white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes are fundamental to astrophysics, but very difficult to measure. We present the results of an analysis of subluminous B (sdB) stars in close binary systems with unseen compact companions to derive their masses and clarify their nature. Radial velocity curves were obtained from time resolved spectroscopy. The atmospher...
متن کاملRevealing Companions to Nearby Stars with Astrometric Acceleration∗
A subset of 51 Hipparcos astrometric binaries among FG dwarfs within 67 pc has been surveyed with the Near-Infrared Coronagraphic Imager adaptive optics system at Gemini-S, directly resolving for the first time 17 subarcsecond companions and 7 wider ones. Using these data together with published speckle interferometry of 57 stars, we compare the statistics of resolved astrometric companions wit...
متن کاملOptical Detection of Two Intermediate Mass Binary Pulsar Companions
We report the detection of probable optical counterparts for two Intermediate Mass Binary Pulsar (IMBP) systems, PSR J1528−3146 and PSR J1757−5322. Recent radio pulsar surveys have uncovered a handful of these systems with putative massive white dwarf companions, thought to have an evolutionary history different from that of the more numerous class of Low Mass Binary Pulsars (LMBPs) with He whi...
متن کاملDetectability of Jupiter-to-Brown-Dwarf-Mass Companions Around Small Eclipsing Binary Systems
The presence of a third body orbiting an eclipsing binary system has long been known to ooset the system about a binary/third-body barycenter causing periodic variations in the time of eclipses (due to the increasing or decreasing light travel time). Recent increased precision in the timing of eclipse minima should allow a survey of the prevalence of Jupiter to Brown Dwarf mass objects by this ...
متن کاملMass determination of astrometric binaries with Hipparcos
In a previous paper (Martin et al., 1997) we have shown that for double stars with orbital periods smaller than about 25 years, it was possible to determine from the Hipparcos data, the mass ratio B of the components or the difference between the mass and intensity ratios, β−B, provided the orbital elements of the relative orbit are available. Froman extensive literature search we have selected...
